In an official report on the fin- ances of the Colony for the year 1936, the Colonial Treasury discloses that the surplus of $500,000 was illusory.
The actual revenue exceeded the estimate by $3,371,139, and the an- ticipated deficit of $2,926,303 was, therefore, turned into a surplus of over $500,000.
