A. D. Locke, the. South African Open and Amateur Champion, play- ed some amazing golf yesterday, when, in the match between the South Africans and the Royal St. George's Club, at Sandwich, he beat D. H. R. Martin. by 7 and 5,

Locke completed the round in 68-10 shots under bogey for this championship course on, which the South African will made a bid for the British Amateur title next week. 10 “BIRDIES”

Locke lost two holes on the out- ward half, missing a putt of about three feet each time, otherwise he would have had the splendid half- round score of 31..

BRASSIE SHOT ON GREEN Martin lost his ball at the first hole and became two down, when Locke sank a long putt at the' second. Martin won the fourth, but then came Locke's "eagle” at the fifth, a brassie shot to the green, leaving him six yards from the hole and he got down the putt.

Locke became four up at the seventh, having won the sixth hole with a long putt, but he 'lost the ninth, where he pulled his second. shot and then missed a short putt to exceed bogey for the only time. He was four up again at the tenth, which began a sequence of four wins, with which he finished the match, a chip shot of 30 yards be- ing holed from a bunker at the 11th. He got down from -four yards at the 12th, and Martin lost his ball at the 13th.
