TWO SHANGHAI HOPES IN FAMOUS RACE
PERIFOX IN RUNNING
REUTER'S cable announcing the final accept-
ances for the Derby makes it possible to give the first list of probable starters for to-day's classic at Epsom Downs. Doubtful starters appear to be Winnebar and Sandsprite, for whom no jockeys have yet been found.
THE FORM OF THREE-YEAR-OLDS THIS YEAR IS VERY CONFUSED, AND OF THOSE WHO HAVE APPEARED ON THE COURSE, IT IS SAFE TO SAY THAT NONE, WITH THE POS- SIBLE EXCEPTION OF LE KSAR, HAVE JUSTIFIED THE EPITHET OF OUTSTANDING.
Le Ksar's unexpected victory in the Two Thousand Guineas gave him first place in preference to various previous candidates for that honour, and although Perifox, by winning the Payne Stakes, usurped favouritism for a short time, Le Ksar has lately resumed that position. Perifox was reported to have been slightly under the weather, but that condition is now said to be remedied.
