FOUR GAMES YESTERDAY
PECTATORS at the Hong Kong Football Club yesterday were treated to an exciting bowl match, when F. Goodwin and A. E. Silkstone creat- ed the first big sensation of the season when they defeated A. E. Coates and R. Basa, two interporters, in the First Round of the Open Pairs Lawn Bowls championship, by 21 shots to 20 after being led for the greater part of the game.
Goodwin played a good game drawing very well and thus saving his side several shots or turning a head in his favour.
Trailing behind the Craigengower pair for the first nine heads. the Kowloon representatives, with the aid of a four and a two, took the lead at the eleventh head. A five for the valley side again found them four in arrears, but they drew level at 18 all on the 18th head. In the last head the Kowloon Cricket Club pair were two shots in the lead. several back woods, Basa attempted to carry the jack but just failed, turning one of his woods for the shot.
Christl and Rudi Cranz, brother and sister, above, won the German Alpine Ski Racing recent ly.

At the net she was completely out of her element, while her awk- wardly executed backhand - was much too weak for the doubles game. Burnett tried very hard and most of the points scored by this combination came as a result of his incisive volleying and quick in- terceptions at the net. Owing to the poor form of his partner, however, his was a losing game throughout. E. C. Fincher and Miss R. Perry
