amined by a jury at the Old Bailey. Albert. Antoine Thiebault, fifty- three-year-old Frenchman, of Ken- nington-road, S.E., was accused of attempting to murder Vivien Letitia Dean, or, alternatively of adminis tering poison to endanger her life. He pleaded not guilty.
Mr. Anthony Hawke, prosecuting, said that it was alleged that the gas was carried by the hosepipe from the basement and poured into Bean's bedroom through the top of her locked door.
"Thiebault is the landlord of the house," said Mr. Hawke, “For eight years he and Mrs. Dean had lived together.
"They quarrelled about Dean's alleged: association with another man, living in the house.

"On the morning of March Dean was awakened by a hissing noise from the door of her room..
"She unlocked the door and saw Thiebault in his pyjamas. He had rubber tubing in his hand.
"Mrs. Dean screamed, and Thie- bault came into her room. He took her by the throat and told her to keep quiet. She promised and he left her.
"When the police were called they found the house smelt, strong- ly of gás. They discovered tubing, smelling of gas, in a cellar.”
Thiebault denied that he had tried to gas Mrs. Dean.. -:

In theatres, cinemas, dance halls and at sporting events, as well as in trams, buses and trains, you are continually exposed to the risk of catching, colds and developing coughs and throat affections.
Respiroids, Inhalant lozenges, provide an effectives barrier against coughs and colds, and minimise the risk of infection. They are pleasant to take, and are, ad designed that their curative. elements are conveyed immediately to the nasal passages, throat and lungs, where the risk of infection is greatest. Carry them with you; they are convenient for the pocket, and be prepared for their immediate use when you encounter a crowd. Obtainable from chemists.
