MAX BAER TOO GOOD FOR BEN FOORD NOVICELIKE ABANDON IN TACTICS
REFEREE STOPS BOUT WITH FOORD IN BAD SHAPE
London, To-day.
In a 12 round non-titular heavyweight boxing contest held at the Harringay Stadium last night, Max Baer, former world heavyweight champion, beat Ben Foord, the former British and Empire heavyweight champion, on a technical knockout, Foord's seconds throwing in the towel in the ninth round.
There was a sensational finish to the bout, which was a neck-or-nothing affair, Max Baer go- ing for a knock-out at any cost, and the fight being featured by a total lack of science, although this was compensated by crowded thrills.

usual clowning tactics
had an unsettling effect on Foord.
who did not box with, his normal composure, and for a greater part of the fight stood-up-as a target for Baer's stinging blows. Foord was floored for a count of eight in the second round, but was saved by the gong.
The South African was groggy on several occasions until the ninth round, when he was sent crashing to the canvas three times, on each occasion by a murderous barrage of blows.

BAER'S COMMENT As he left the ring after fight, Baer was heard to remark, "I can see better from two eyes than from one"-referring to his dam- aged eye in his unsuccessful. bout with Tommy Farr, the present Bri- tish and Empire Heavyweight champion. Baer certainly showed that he had the punch."
