ACUTE SWATOW TENSION Kwangtung Military Leaders Under Orders.

OFFICIALS LEAVE

AFTER CONFERENCE IN CANTON

Canton, To-day.

The Sino-Japanese tension in Swatow, arising out of the detention and handcuffing of a Japan- ese policeman, may lead to grave repercussions.

Following rushing to the port of the cruiser Yubari, flagship of the Fifth Japanese Destroyer Flotilla, and three destroyers, come indications that the Chinese authorities at Canton view the situation in a serious light.

NOTABLE WAS THE SUDDEN RETURN TO SWATOW YESTERDAY, UNDER ORDERS FROM THE KWANGTUNG PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT, OF GENERAL LI HAN-WEN, GARRISON COMMANDER FOR EASTERN KWANGTUNG.

Official reason for the move is that General Li is to “look after military affairs". The Japanese have threatened to "land à naval party if necessary."

Meanwhile, General Tang Lung- kwang, Garrison Commander for the Waichow District, left Canton for Waichow yesterday morning, also under instructions from Gen- eral Yu Han-mou, Pacification Com- missioner for Kwangtung.
