A SOGGY track as the result of heavy rainfall soon after the second race, made the going difficult in the second day's racing of the Fifth Extra Race Meeting, held at Happy Valley yester- day, and featured by very small dividends, the best of which was Firefly's effort in the last event of the day, the Green Island Handicap, when it unexpect-L. Dunbar's Diana Bay edly came second to pay its backers $58.30 each.
IN THE SECOND RACE, THE BONDI HANDICAP FOR AUS- TRALIAN PONIES, MR. H. C. PIH, RIDING DOUBLE FINESSE, LODGED A PROTEST AGAINST MR. B. A. PROULX, WHO RODE THE WINNER LANCASHIRE CHIPS, FOR INTERFERENCE, BUT THE STEWARDS OVER-RULED THE OBJECTION.
There was an amazing incident in the Press Box worthy of recording, when one of the heavy plate glass windows which are manoeuvred up and down by means of a pulley, crashed unsuspect- ingly onto the head of Mr. F. M. el Arculli, a Sub-Editor of the "H. K. Daily Press," who was attempting to hold the window up in order to obtain a clearer vision, while a Chinese coolie worked the pulley lever; this taking place soon after the third race.
