Many of the new George VI, silver coins will be struck at the British Royal Mint from coins which have recently been circulat- ing in Rumania.

The Mint has bought from the Rumanian Government silver coins, which have been withdrawn from circulation, to the value of £82,000. An official of the Mint said:

"These coins were made in Bri- tain about five years ago. They are of the alloy which is used for Bri tish silver coinage-a complicated Jalloy, and one which takes great experience and skill in manufac- turing. · The new Rumanian Mint could not possibly cope with it, and will have to use some simpler sil- ver-copper alloy."
