Endeavour II Takes To The Water

Portsmouth, April 15. Mr. T. 0. M. Sopwith's challenger for the America's Cup, Endeavour IL, was launched from the slip at Gosport to-day with much of the preparation for the Atlantic cross- ing already done.

Much work has been done. on board since she was hauled up after the last racing season.

Her hatches have been streng- thened with special cowls, and her děck has been made ready for a jury rig, including a mizzen mast.

FINAL PREPARATIONS

She was towed to a buoy farther up the harbour, where the final pre- parations for the crossing will be made.

Both Endeavour I. and Endeavour II. will be fitted with long-range telephone apparatus to keep to touch with the escorting vessel dur- ing the Atlantic crossing. The provisional date for the departure is May 1. Endeavour I. has been lent by Mr. H. A. Andreae as а trial horse for the tests in American waters.

ROYAL TROPHY FOUND AFTER 40 YEARS

Queen Victoria's Gift

Southampton, April 16.

After all trace had been lost for 40 years by the Royal Southampton Yacht Club of a handsome silver cup given to the club for a handi- cap race by Queen Victoria in the year of her Diamond Jubilee, the trophy has been discovered under remarkable. circumstances ina silversmith's shop at Cardiff.

While on a holiday visit to South Wales a club member was introduc- ed to a silversmith and learned that the cup was in his possession and that it was, for sale.

The cup, 211⁄2 in. high and a fine example of the silversmiths' work of the period, has been repurchased by the club for £35 and is now re- stored, to a place of honour among the club trophies.

C. F. WALTERS UNABLE TO PLAY FOR WORCESTER

London, April 15. Worcestershire suffered a severe blow yesterday when it was -an- nounced that C. F. Walters, their brilliant batsman, will be unable to play for the county this season.

The Nawab of Pataudi has in- formed the management that he will arrive in England at the end of May, but it is not yet known whether he will have recovered sufficiently in health to turn out.
