AMERICA WANTS TO SEE TOMMY FARR

BUT BRITISH

CHAMPION TO

MEET MAX SCHMELING

THE NEXT STEP WOULD BE FOR

WORLD TITLE MATCH

(By HAROLD LEWIS)

London, April 17.

TOMMY FARR, the young Welshman who, a year ago, was pleading for fights, to-day finds himself one of the most widely sought heavy- weights in the world. His victory over Max Baer at Harringay on Thurs- day night has reverberated across the Atlantic. He is wanted for fights in America even more than he is wanted here in England.

CHIEF OF THE OFFERS MADE HIM YESTERDAY WAS ONE BY THE NATIONAL SPORTING CLUB FOR A FIGHT WITH MAX SCHMELING. THE FORMER WORLD'S CHAM- PION. AT THE EMPRESS STADIUM. EARL'S COURT. IN JUNE. THIS OFFER INTERESTED FARR AND HIS MANAGER MORE THAN ANY OF THE OTHERS. AND THE 'REPLY WAS, "GET SCHMELING, AND WE SHALL BE GLAD TO DISCUSS TERMS.”

The Club are already in touch with Schmeling. I believe the purse they are contemplating is in the region of £12,000. This fight woud be one of importance to Farr, considerably greater even than his fight with Baer; for whereas Baer's declared intention to regain the world's championship was not seriously accepted, at any rate in his own country, Schmeling was matched with Braddock, the champion, for the title and was generally expected to beat him, especially as he had already knocked out the only other real world contender, Joe Louis.

No doubt they are right, for Farr's victory over Baer made his countrymen vastly grateful to him, wonderfully proud of him. They probably believe, too, that Farr is now capable of deeds even greater, and that he will climb higher into the world zone than had been hoped of any British heavy-weights."
