London, April 14.

"Kid" Lewis, 41, former welter- weight boxing champion of the world, gave evidence at the Old Bailey yesterday, when the hearing of the charge against him of attempting to pervert justice was resumed. Lewis, who, it was stated, was in charge of the Moulin Rouge Club, in Old Compton-street, Soho, pleaded not guilty.

The case arises out of a charge of causing grievous bodily harm to a man named Simmons. It was alleged that Lewis offered, if he were paid £50, to stop Simmons picking out James Frederick Wooder at a police identification parade. Mrs. Ada Wooder, mother of James Wooder, of President-street, Islington, stated that Lewis told her that for £50 he would "pull Itsky' Simmons off." Simmons would have to do as he was told.

London, April 15. Edward ("Kid") Lewis, former welter-weight boxing champion of the world, was found not guilty at the Old Bailey yesterday on 2 charge of attempting to obstruct and pervert the course of law and justice. He was discharged.

When the jury brought in their verdict, after only 15 minutes' absence, the Recorder, Sir Holman Gregory, K.C., remarked: “You are quite right."
