The' team is: Mr. Kenneth Konstam, Mr. Graham Mathie- son, Mr. Edward Reeves, Mr. A. Duncan Lock, and Mr. Frank England, non-playing captain. Mr. Konstam and Mr. Mathieson are well-known London players. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Lock from Birmingham.

Mr. Konstam was опе of the signatories to the letter in which a number of leading players announ- ced to the British Bridge League their unwillingness to take part in test trials unless the Duplicate Bridge Control Board was associat- ed in the making of the selection. He subsequently changed his mind and participated in the British Bridge League's trial matches.
This body has held two sets of trials, and has given prolonged con- sideration to the choice finally reached. All four players have re- cords of substantial bridge suc- cesses, and it goes without saying that they must have done particu- larly well in the trials, which were held in private for the sole scrutiny of the selection committee.
FOUR WORLD TITLES
There will be four championships at the Budapest meeting, which is the first to be held under the auspices of the new International Bridge League formed last year by a merger with the International Bridge Union, whereby the Culbert- son organisation in America brought in.

will carry world titles, are:
Open teams of foar,
Women's teams of four,
Open pairs, ⠀
Mixed pairs.
The United States will take part for the first time. Mr. and Mrs. Ely Culbertson are to enter a team, and there may be another American team.
As already announced women's team selected by the British Bridge League is Miss Daphne Kleuser's Nottingham team, which recently won the Whitelaw Cup..
NEW PRECEDENT
I understand that for the first -time, in the final rounds at least, the open teams-of-four champion- ship will be run on the knock-out principle with aggregate scoring. This should suit the British players much better than match-point scor- ing, at which the Continental teams excel.
Any players in this country may enter for the open and mixed pairs championships, provided they are approved of by the British Bridge League, through which body they must make their entries. In the pairs events scoring will be by match points.
