PENAL SERVITUDE FOR DIRECTOR
Disappeared With Company's £775
Sentence of three years penal servitude was passed at the Old Bailey on Frederick John William Kirkwood, 48, a company director, who pleaded guilty to two charges of fraudulent conversion and ask- ed for four other charges to be taken into consideration.

Mr. J. B. Montagu, prosecuting, one charge related to a company call- ed London Counties Advertising | Services Ltd., of which Kirkwood was managing director.
Mr. A. M. da, Motta, who after many years in the Customs ser vice has established a cosmetic factory in Tientsin under the name, Eastern Manufacturers' Agents and opened a branch in Hong Kong.

Det.-Sergt. Davidson stated that Kirkwood had four convictions in the name of William Frederick Hec- tor Pinkham, which was his real name. In 1922 he was sentenced to three years' penal servitude for obtaining money by worthless che- ques, and in 1925 to five years' penal servítude for fraud at Man- chester. This sentence was reduced to 18 months' imprisonment on ap- peal.
Kirkwood, who left his wife in 1921, had since been living
with another woman, by whom he had three children.
