MEASUREMENTS OF THE RANGER

7,550 SQ. FT. OF SAIL

New York, April 3. Details of the measurements of Mr. Harold Vanderbilt's new yacht, Ranger, which may be the America's Cup defender, were revealed this afternoon.

"The yacht is now nearing completion at Bath, Maine.

Its length overall will be 135ft., with a water-line mea- surement of 87ft., beam of ap- proximately 22ft., and draw of 15ft.

The sail area will be 7,550 sq. ft. The Ranger's tonnage will be 1651⁄2. The launching has been postponed until May 11.

The races between the and the challenger, Mr. T. O. M. Sopwith's Endeavour II., will be- gin off Newport, Rhode Island, on July 31.

FAREWELL TO SOPWITH'S Mr. and Mrs. T. O. M. Sopwith, who will be sailing early in May for New York, with the two. En- deavours, in preparation for the second attempt to win back the America's Cup, will be the guests of honour at a farewell dinner at the Portsmouth Yacht Club on April 27.

The Earl of Dudley will preside, and Admiral of the Fleet Sir Roger Keyes and the Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth, Adml. Sir William Fisher, will ättend.

DAVIS CUP TEAM

Heavy Fall Of Snow On His Mine

New York, April 1. America's Davis Cup team will be without Sydney B. Wood this year. Wood has informed the Selection Committee that he will be unable to join the team as he cannot spare the time from business to concen- trate on lawn tennis.

This is due to the recent heavy snowfall on his mining property in California.

America's first match is agains Japan at San Francisco' on April 30. Australia play Mexico on the same date at Mexico City, and the winners of the two ties will meet at Forest Hills in the zone final.

TT is reliably learned that L/Sergeant Grindley will

be taking over the training of the Royal Welch Fusiliers' box- ing team when Corporal Scott leaves the Colony at the end of the year. Corporal Scott has been in charge of the team for the past five years, during which time the Fusiliers held the championship - for three years at Gibraltar.
