K.C.C. FALTER AFTER SOUND START

BEST JUNIOR SIDE WAS ARMY "B"

(By "ADREM")

THE teams reviewed in this article are the Kow- loon Cricket Club, from the First Division, and Army “B” from the Second. Kowloon C.C., cham- pions for 1935/36, were, at the beginning of this season, conceded to have had a very good chance of retaining the Shield. The whole of the cham- pionship team was available with the exception of A. T. Lay and F. S. W. Smith who left for Eng- land. To offset their loss, Donald Anderson re- turned to the Colony in time for the second match, and the promotion of B. D. Lay from the second eleven, definitely lent some variety to the attack.

E. F. FINCHER AND R. E. LEE WERE SELECTED TO REPRESENT HONG KONG IN THE MATCH AGAINST SHANG- HALIN OCTOBER LAST, AND SO WELL DID BOTH PERFORM IN THE INTERPORT GAME, THAT MUCH WAS EXPECTED] FROM THEM ON THEIR RETURN.

With a loss of only two points in three games, prospects looked quite bright when the match with H.K.C.C. was played, but the team gave a very poor performance and were soundly thrashed. Thereafter, the University was easily beaten and much the better of a drawn game with the Indians, now bracketed with H.K.C.C. at the head of the table, was played.

As usual, the batting was fairly good, in most cases the first five batsmen proved equal to the occasion and the "tail" was not often called upon.

N. A. E. Mackay tops the aver- ages followed by D. J. N. Anderson, while F. A. Broadbridge, in his first season for the senior eleven, was a good third. Both the Fin- chers were rather disappointing.

BOWLER. OF PROMISE Anderson heads the bowlers, but Lee performed consistently well to capture 23 wickets. B. D. Lay proved himself. to be, a bowler of some promise with his slow breaks and should have a big future fore him.

The Club appear to have a bright season in store for them next year, and can confidently be expected to] have a big say in next year's cham- pionship.

Best Team In Junior Cricket League

not win the

Although they did junior championship, Army "B" had easily the most powerful bat- ting side in the league. On no less than five occasions did they top the 200 mark and their lowest score apart from 88 for 2 against Recreio, was 153 for 8 against Army "C".

Their batting averages speak for themselves. Capt. Michell assisted by three not outs, tops the list with 151, Cpl. Wateridge is next with 47.75, three batsmen top the 3 30 mark, while two are over 20. Amaz- Ing consistency.

The bowling returns, although not startling, are quite good, Michell, Shipp and Moreton all re- turning fine analyses.

IMPRESSIVE FIGURES From the point of view of figures, this team was undoubtedly, the best-balanced in the Junior Lea gue and are a further instance of the glorious uncertainty of cricket. I find it difficult, however, concile these figures with their re- sults and can only conclude that Capt. Michell, the skipper, was not quite enterprising enough and on many occasions failed to press home an advantage.

L/Cpl. Willey was very successful behind the sticks, catching and stumping four while Q. M. S. Warr was a worthy deputy.
