OR the Third Extra Race Meeting, to be held to- morrow, the Hong Kong Jockey Club have ar- ranged a varied programme of nine events, and, despite the absence of some of the stalwarts Strathroy, King's Warden and Happy Eve — there is every reason to expect that keen competition will prevail.

pect to see Vira sent out instead. Vira will be ridden by Mr. S. C. Liang, whose grand win on Apilas recently is still fresh in the minds of racing enthusiasts. Vira has al- ways been regarded as the better of the two, especially over short distances, and it will no doubt com- mand strong support.

This race for "B" Class China ponies should provide an exciting finish. Mr. Li Po-chun has booked Mr. B. A. Proulx to ride Expansion Time, but its chances of winning seems rather remote on account of its heavy burden of 168 lba. King's- -Lead-will again be ridden by Mr. S. C. Mrs. Dunbar's Bear Claw, above, although conceding 20 lbs. to Soldier of Britain, is confidently expected to win the Mirs Bay Handicap, (“China Mail' photo).
Amberley (Mr. Y. T. Fung) will probably find the distance a little too long, and if Mr. Davis has the mount on King's Bounty instead of Pontiac Bay, I would recommend keeping an eye on him. King's Bounty is very fit at the moment, and readers will recall that at the the Annual Meeting it very nearly caught up Harvest View. If it had won on that occasion it would have paid one of the biggest dividends within recent years. Soldier of Peace is also in this race, but a mile is not to its liking-it prefers |a little longer distance. My selec- tions are Boolat Bay to win, with Jungle Jim and King's Bounty fighting out the second position. Taiwan Bay Handicap: From The Two Mile Post Once Round And In. Our novice jockeys have this race all to themselves, and they will be called
upon to take out China ponies, "D" Class. Valorous and Laughing Girl have each to carry 165 lbs, and without the assistance of whips, I think we can safely rule them out of all consideration..
After coming in: second to Wild Cat in a race on Easter Monday, Gold Coin, which will be ridden by Mr. S. W. Tang again, will probably fill first position. Mr. Tang is a fast (Continued on Page 19)
