London, To-day.

The Spanish Government has protested to the non-intervention committee against the alleged landing of 10,000 Italians at Cadiz since the ban on volunteers came into force.

Enquiries by the British Government do not confirm the allegation.

Following the visit of the British cruiser H.M.S. Shrop- shire to the insurgent authorities at Palma, an apology has been expressed for the bombing of the destroyer H.M.S. Gallant.

It is understood that General Franco stated it was conceivable that the insurgent planes unfortun- ately mistook the Gallant for a Spanish Government craft.-.
