MAX BAER ARRIVES IN ENGLAND

PLANS FOR

FOR FIGHTS IN

LONDON

WANTS WORLD-TITLE MATCH

(By HAROLD LEWIS):

Southampton, March 18. MAX BEAR arrived to-night from California. The former world's heavy-weight champion was resplendent in check suit with American shoulders, and grey suede shoes and replete with magnificent studio smile. He is here to fight; and on April 15, at Harringay, he will meet the winner of next Monday's British championship fight be- tween Ben Foord and Tommy Farr.

WHEN I ASKED HIM ABOUT OTHER PLANS HE REFÈR- ŘED ME TO HIS MANAGER, BUT AS THOUGH IT HAD SUD- DENLY STRUCK HIM HE SAID: “HERE IS A GRAND IDEA. I COULD WIN A COUPLE OF FIGHTS IN LONDON, AND THEN THEY CAN BRING THE WINNER OF THE LOUIS-BRADDOCK- FIGHT HERE TO STACK AGAINST ME FOR THE WORLD'S TITLE.

"If it was Braddock, it would give me a chance to regain the If it was Louis I could win title from the man to whom I lost it. it back for the white races. Why not? The money is just as good here as it is in America. It can be done in England. People will always pay for anything new!"

When Max Baer and his mana- ger, Mr. Ancil Höffman, told of the project at their Lon- don n hotel yesterday, Mr. Hoff- man said:

"It is just what we expected. The whole object of Max's trip to this country was to stage the biggest boxing show England has ever had. Baer wants that fight with Louis in London, and, believe

it will: put British boxing on the map That £100,000 gate is coming, and Max is going to be in on it."

Stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control will meet in Lon- don to day to consider the protest from the New York State Athletic Commission against Baer being al- lowed to fight in England before meeting Bob Pastor at Madison- square Garden.
