10.48. A recommendation for improving the water supply to the Stanley and Repulse Bay areas to anticipate the 1979 demand was made.

10.49. A study of the future water supply requirements for all high level areas on the Island was in hand, and recommendations made for improving the supply to the Tai Hang, Jardine's Lookout the Middle Gap districts.

10.50. An assessment of the growth of demand in the Sheung Shui and Tai Po districts was in hand to establish timing for an additional filtration plant and a service reservoir.

10.51. A review of the trunk feed capacity from Mount Davis Primary Service Reservoir to Kai Lung Wan and Aberdeen was completed and a programme compiled for enlarging the trunk feed in stages.

10.52. A review of the adequacy of distribution systems in various service reservoir supply zones was in hand. Investigation into the economic utilization of several undeveloped minor water catchment areas began.

General

MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL DIVISION

10.53. The Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of waterworks electrical and mechanical plant and equipment and for the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of all new waterworks plant except for plant associated with the Plover Cove Water Scheme.

10.54. Two workshops, one on the Island and one in Kowloon, carry out maintenance and repair works on mechanical and electrical plant as well as manufacturing special items for new works and maintenance requirements. The workshops are equipped with the latest machine tools and employ machine tool operators, fitters, welders, platers, blacksmiths, coppersmiths and pattern-makers. More than 32,000 water meters and 120 pumps were overhauled during the year. Details of other works carried out in the workshops, meter-repair shops and by this division generally are given in Appendix CC under item (7).
