Sai Kung-Tai Mong Tsai Feeder Road to provide for increasing traffic in the area.
9.33. Other projects commenced were the widening of part of Ping Che Road and the reconstruction of part of Castle Peak Road between Tai Ho Road and Sha Tsui Road in Tsuen Wan, owing to the collapse of the road under the greatly increased traffic load.
9.34. Stage I works on the improvement of Castle Peak Road were completed during the year, thus providing a dual carriageway between Castle Peak New Town and Ping Shan.
9.35. Stage III of the South Lantau Road between Keung Shan and Tai O was also completed and was officially opened by H.E. the Governor at a ceremony in Tai O on the 29th of March, 1971.
Drainage and Sewerage Works
9.36. The Dairy Farm Canal at Causeway Bay was culverted and filled in to provide a new link road from Waterfront Road to Causeway Road. Another major culvert in Central Reclamation was diverted to clear a valuable commercial site for development. Work on the extension of several major stormwater culverts in conjunction with the Wan Chai reclamation project continued.
9.37. A large intercepting sewer along Gloucester Road west of Fleming Road was laid in conjunction with roadworks while construction of another section between Tonnochy Road and Percival Street was still in progress. A number of sewers were also improved in Central, Wan Chai and Shau Kei Wan.
9.38. The training of a section of Tung Chung River on Lantau was completed.
