TEN YEARS SENTENCE
ON
JAPANESE
DRUG SMUGGLING
K. Itabashi was sentenced to 10 years hard labour by Sir Atholl MacGregor this morning when found guilty of possession of 724 ounces of heroin and importing it into the Colony.
The jury was absent for eight minutes, and gave a verdict of 6 to 1 in favour of conviction.
"The verdict is one which is am- ply justified by the evidence. You have seen fit for reasons only known to yourself to take part in a deli- berate attempt to bring into the
Colony drugs in very large quan-
tity. You know that this quantity
was sufficient to poison the whole
population of the Colony, including yourself. This is the most serious case of its type that has yet come before this Court," remarked the Chief Justice, in announcing the sentence.
