conditioners in the General Paint Shop was discontinued and a new paint shop formed, this being an integral part of the Kowloon Section. 2,564 new units were tested and 577 installed. 3,036 units were completely overhauled while preventive maintenance was carried out on 30,336 items and 3,741 fault calls attended. 385 miscellaneous tests were carried out, 1,259 refrigerator cabinets re-sprayed and 1,117 units replaced by new units.
Electrical Maintenance Sections
8.22. These Sections cover both workshop overhaul and site maintenance of electrical equipment covering a wide range of items including domestic appliances, goods and passenger lifts, aerial masts, obstruction lights and beacons, large horse-power motor and switch gear. The Workshops completed 42,019 Works Orders including 25,020 tests of electrical appliances for the Government Supplies Department and other Government Departments, 6,709 repairs to domestic appliances and the repair or rewinding of 620 electric motors. Maintenance staff attended 49,425 fault calls and completed 101,528 Works Orders in respect of routine maintenance of equipment including electric motors, electric lifts, emergency generators, burglar and fire alarm systems, fans, dental and medical equipment, switch gear, perimeter lighting and traffic aids.
Electrical Installations Sections
8.23. The engineering of traffic lights and their control systems together with other traffic aids is one of the responsibilities of these Sections. Traffic lights were installed or modified at 76 road junctions during the year and there are now 226 road junctions equipped with traffic lights and 2,212 other electrical traffic aids in operation. In addition to traffic light engineering, these Sections also carried out the wiring of new, and the re-wiring of existing, electrical installations. Such work included the wiring installation of laundry equipment at Chi Ma Wan Prison, Stanley Prison, Cape Collinson Training Centre and Tai Lam Women's Prison; the wiring installation of emergency generators at Victoria Peak Radio Station, Shek Pik Training Centre, Kowloon Hospital New Convalescent Block; the wiring installation of general lighting systems at bus shelters; the wiring installation of pumps, workshop equipment, dental and medical equipment, hospital incinerators and numerous other items.
