Barnett Out After Scoring 18 Runs In Seventeen Minutes
TENSE SITUATION IN SHENSI
Shanghai, To-day.
The situation in Shensi is still fraught with danger to peace owing to the possibi- lity of a clash between Marshal Chang Hsueh- liang's former north-eastern army and the troops of Gen- eral Wang Hu-chang, Paci- fication Commissioner of Shensi, according to Chin- ese and foreign reports re- ceived in Shanghai.

ANALYSIS
A twelve-year-old record went by the board at Melbourne this morning when Australia carried their first innings total in the fifth Test Match to 604, four runs better than the previous highest total they had scored in Australia.
England, at lunch, had scored 65 for the loss of Barnett, who fell a victim to Oldfield behind the wicket, and were thus 539 runs behind with nine wickets to fall.
While law and order now pre- unamuOUTINEZONIZHNMFERLIBERITE

River, where the Government troops have full control, the at- mosphere in northern Shensi is tense.
