Construction
6.56. The divisional activities have been gradually expanding and works carried out during the year include submarine outfalls at Lai Chi Kok, Sham Shui Po, Wan Chai (West) and Tai Wan, Kowloon; main stormwater culverts in the Central Reclamation of Hong Kong Island and Kwai Chung West; and intercepting sewers in Shaukiwan Road and Kwai Chung. Work was in full swing in connection with Stages I, II and III of the Shing Mun River Flood Control Scheme and it is expected that the whole project will be completed by 1973. Tenders were invited for the construction of a sewer in Shek Kip Mei Street and Maple Street, Kowloon, as part of the sewer duplication proposals. The major parts of the remedial works in Shau Kei Wan Village areas were completed and these works proved to function satisfactorily during the rainy season of 1970.
Planning
6.57. Designs being undertaken included a stormwater drain and sewer in Shan Kwong Road and Tsap Tseung Street; an intercepting sewer in Wan Chai Reclamation; a screening plant in Yen Chow Street and an outfall sewer in Yuen Long. In addition, the Yuen Long screening plant house and the sewer north of Lai Chi Kok Bay were also in the design stage and construction work is expected to be started shortly. The design of the Wan Chai (East) submarine outfall was completed.
Studies and Investigation
6.58. Messrs. J. D. & D. M. WATSON, Consulting Engineers, in association with this Division, completed the design of the Shek Wu Hui Pilot Sewage Treatment plant. Tenders were invited for the civil engineering works and the supply of machinery in the plant whilst the access road leading to the plant was completed.
6.59. Messrs. J. D. & D. M. WATSON also completed, in association with this Division, the field work for the Hydrological Surveys of Victoria and Tolo Harbours. A draft report of the Survey submitted by the Consultants was being revised following an examination of the
