seawall has been reclaimed, ferries will be able to berth alongside instead of disembarking passengers by sampan as at present.

6.40. The 250-ft. extension of the Cheung Chau Praya was nearly finished.

6.41. The construction of the pier at Shek Pik was also nearing completion while the work for the construction of a reinforced concrete cover for the Tai O Public Pier was well under way.

6.42. A new spring fendering system was installed at Tsing Yi Public Pier to replace the old rigid fenders.

6.43. At Sai Kung, the small reclamation adjacent to the Sai Kung cinema was completed to provide a site for a latrine and bathhouse building and at Tai Po, the reclamation for the Government Quarters was proceeding satisfactorily.

6.44. Work started on the improvement to the old existing break-water at Three Fathoms Cove and dredging for improvement of the natural anchorage at Chek Keng in Long Harbour was completed and will provide shelter for local fishing craft from Tap Mun.

Kwai Chung Container Terminal

6.45. In connection with the design of the Terminal's quaywalls, a series of model tests were carried out by the Hydraulics Research Station at Wallingford, England in accordance with the requirements of this Division.

6.46. Three Lots were sold to private developers and their proposals for the design of quaywalls and method of reclamation were studied.

6.47. Design work and planning for the dredging of the approaches to the Berths and for the construction of an interchange and access roads from Kwai Chung Road were well under way.

6.48. Investigations into possible further berths for container ships continued.

Maintenance and Dredging

6.49. General maintenance and repairs were carried out to Government piers, seawalls, breakwaters, navigational markers and light beacons.
