side of Area 9 and roads and drains in Areas 9 and 12 were commenced.
6.20. The trunk sewer was completed and the construction of a sewage pumping station and submarine outfall at Pak Kok Tsui was well advanced. In association with these works, Pillar Point Road was extended to Pak Kok Tsui.
6.21. Planning the next stage of Castle Peak Development continued.
Railway Section
6.22. In 1968 it was decided to move the Railway Terminus from Tsim Sha Tsui to Hung Hom and in order to make greater use of the land on which the new Terminus is to be situated a podium was planned above the railway yard to accommodate the passenger station building, a multi-storey car park, an indoor stadium and a bus station. During the year under review design of the new Railway Terminus proceeded and construction of the main drainage started.
Airport Development
6.23. Extensions to the aircraft parking aprons and taxiway facilities, were continued. Two major contracts were completed providing 88,400 square yards of short-term parking apron and taxiway and 44,200 square yards of long-term parking apron together with all associated drainage, fuelling and utility services. Two other contracts comprising the completion of the new taxiway and further extension of the parking area were nearing completion.
6.24. Planning was in progress for a high-speed turnoff from the runway and a taxiway linking it to the terminal area as well as for improvements to the internal road system and vehicle parking facilities in the Airport.
6.25. Work on the extension of the runway commenced under consulting engineers. The promontory is being extended by reclamation for a distance of 2,530 feet to provide a runway 11,130 feet long. One contract started for the reclamation and another for construction of trial pavements. Following completion of trials the consulting engineers also let a contract for grooving the existing runway to improve its frictional characteristics. Investigations by consulting engineers into the proposed Airport Tunnel Road continued.
