6.13. Reclamation continued in Kowloon Bay where some 551,600 cubic yards of material from Government projects and private building sites were deposited to form 21 acres of land.

Kwai Chung/Tsuen Wan New Town

6.14. For Kwai Chung Container Terminal the site-formation contract for reclaiming 39 acres behind the existing breakwater continued well; 10 acres of land at the borrow area at Lai Chi Kok were formed for residential and community uses while 9 acres were formed at the one at Texaco Peninsula for industrial purposes. A contract at Kwai Chung Area 29B to provide 20 acres of land for light industrial, storage and Government uses made a good start.

6.15. Reclamation continued in Gin Drinkers Bay where some 1,803,000 cubic yards of material from Government and private works were deposited, bringing the total area reclaimed to 273 acres.

Sha Tin New Town

6.16. The Stage I, Phase 1, development scheme, when completed, will provide 100 acres of formed sites, roads and services for private residential and industrial development, Government housing, Government institutional and community use, as well as open space for recreation; it could support a population of 30,000 people.

6.17. Some 262,000 cubic yards of material from Government projects were deposited in Areas 7 and 8, bringing the total area reclaimed to 12.7 acres for the Government housing site and the Sha Tin By-pass. Work continued on the construction of Sha Tin By-pass. A temporary carriageway was completed and opened to weekend traffic and two temporary car parks were completed.

Castle Peak New Town

6.18. Stage IA of the Castle Peak Development, which is now well advanced, will provide formed land, roads and services for private residential purposes, Government housing, industrial sites, Government institution and community use, as well as open space for recreation; it is able to accommodate 100,000 persons.

6.19. Site-formation works continued satisfactorily and about 33 acres of land were formed. The district distributor road on the north
