SWEEPSTAKE ERROR

Mistake That Jockey Club Could Have Averted

Owing to the extremely poor facilities offered the Press at Race Meetings at the Valley, a mistake was made in the draw for the Derby Sweepstake in last night's final edition.

The ticket which drew Happy. Eve, the winner, was No. 136871 and not No. 13687 as was reported.

Copied over the shoulder of an official-no official list is ever given. the Press the mistake arose as the result of varied coloured ink on the list being made up, and it so happened that the Happy Eve line was the most indistinct of the 28 lines!

We would take this opportunity to urge the Jockey Club to issue official statements to the Press on any matter in which the public's money is concerned. This act -would not only help the Press, but it would be greatly appreciated by the general racing fraternity.
