KEEN ENCOUNTER WITNESSED
PHILLIPS SHINES FOR WINNERS
An exciting Rugby match in the Inter-Company Competition, of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, took place on the Polo ground when “A”(8) Company beat "B" Company by a goal, a dropped goal and two tries (15 points) to a dropped goal (4) points) after leading at the inter- val by 6 points to 4.
Very hard play was featured throughout and there was not much to choose between either of the packs, in spite of the margin of difference in the scores, although the heeling of "B" Company was superior.
"B" Company surprisingly took the lead when Connor, their right- wing threequarter, dropped a love- ly goal from within five yards of the touchline.
BOTH UNCONVERTED "A" Company soon retaliated and Evans broke through to score good try, but L/Cpl. Carlisle failed to add the goal-points. Following some loose play, cpl Davies scored another try for "A" Company, L/Cpl. Carlisle again failing to con- vert, and at the interval they led by 6 points to 4.
L/Cpl. Lewis was very prominent in the opening minutes of the second half with two good break- throughs, but the tackling of “A” Company's backs was very good. Following a long kick to touch, Morgan nearly forced his way over. Eventually "A" Company forwards heeled the ball and Phillips drop ped a good goal.
