4.70. Other projects completed during the year included off-street refuse collection points at Tsim Sha Tsui, improvements to the air-conditioning system of the City Hall restaurant and pest control premises at Kwai Chung.

Services Projects

4.71. During the year construction work on a total of fifteen projects for the Armed Services was completed. Of these, nine were of major proportions and included the refurbishment of existing army camps at Sek Kong, Dodwell's Ridge and Kai Tak.

4.72. The first phase of a scheme to provide 474 Married Quarters for Gurkha Soldiers was completed and 150 quarters are now occupied or ready for occupation; this contract also included the construction of a Helicopter Hangar for the Army Aviation Squadron at Sek Kong.

4.73. At Queen's Hill Camp, New Territories, a two-storey Mess for Rank and File troops was completed replacing former Nissen hut accommodation.

4.74. Two Weapons Training Theatres were also completed, one at Gun Club Barracks and the other at Sek Kong (North) Camp. These are interesting as, to a large extent, they are experimental and, through the use of cine-projection and an electrically operated target system, they are designed to simulate actual combat conditions.

4.75. Other works included the completion of three projects for the Royal Navy at H.M.S. Tamar, additional helicopter pads for the R.A.F. at Kai Tak, and Signals Squadron accommodation at Victoria Barracks.

4.76. At the close of the year there were twelve projects under construction and of particular interest among these was the balance of the Gurkha Married Quarters scheme, including a total of 324 quarters, a school, a medical centre, a temple, shopping facilities and playing fields.

4.77. Other major projects either under construction, or on which construction was about to commence, included the provision of 90 Married Soldiers' Quarters at Osborn Barracks and two separate communications projects.
