convalescent patients and has increased the capacity of Kowloon Hospital to more than 1,000 beds.

4.49. The substructure was completed and construction of the superstructure for a new Medical Department laundry at Shau Kei Wan was put in hand. The building, when constructed, will provide central laundry facilities for all medical requirements on Hong Kong Island.

4.50. On 16th March, 1971 H.E. the Governor formally opened the David Trench Rehabilitation Centre. The complex provides outpatient facilities for maternity, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychiatric treatment.

4.51. Construction of additional staff quarters for Kowloon Hospital was completed and work on the provision of maternity wards and ancillary accommodation at Queen Mary Hospital was also completed.

4.52. Construction work was started on a new Vaccine Institute at Pok Fu Lam and also on the Tsuen Wan/Kwai Chung Polyclinic, while the construction of the Standard Clinic at Kwai Chung North was well in hand.

Police Buildings

4.53. Construction of two blocks containing 48 police inspectorate married quarters was completed on Hong Kong Island, and construction of the third stage of redevelopment at the Police Training School at Aberdeen was also completed. This stage consists of quarters for women police inspectors, women police rank and file and married police officers, office accommodation, stores and transport office.

4.54. Substructure work was completed and tenders were invited for the construction of the superstructure of Stage III of the Police Headquarters building which, when completed, will provide about 128,000 square feet of accommodation for police purposes in a 20-storey block rising from a 2-storey Administration Block.

Prisons Department Buildings

4.55. Construction work was well advanced on the new Training Centre at Dragon's Back. When completed, the Centre will provide training facilities for 170 boys and will include classrooms, workshops, assembly/mess hall, sick bay, laundry, offices, staff club room, boys residential units and also senior and junior staff quarters.
