SOUTH CHINA WIN POOR GAME
EAST CHINA TEAM SHOULD HAVE BEEN TROUNCED
PLAYERS CHANGED DURING THE ENCOUNTER
(By "REFEREE”)
VERY disappointing football match was witnessed by several thou- sands of spectators at Caroline Hill yester day when South China triumphed over East China in the Chinese Interport series by 5 goals to 1 after leading by 3 goals to 1 at the interval. The winners could have
won by double the score had they really exerted themselves!
ALTHOUGH ÍT WAS ANTICIPATED THAT THE SOUTH CHINA TEAM WOULD PROVE TOO GOOD FOR THEIR OPPONENTS, NOBODY EXPECTED TO SEE THE LOCAL TEAM DILLY-DALLY IN FRONT OF GOAL AND IT WAS NOT UNTIL YEUNG SHUI-YICK CAME INTO THE TEAM IN PLACE OF CHEUK SHEK-KAM (THEY WERE PLAYING. UNDER FAR EASTERN OLYMPIC GAMES RULES WHICH ALLOW FOR SUBSTITUTIONS) THAT THE STANDARD OF PLAY IMPROVED.
I at first put-down the listlessness of the play to that "Chinese New Year feeling," but was forced to change my mind during the second-half, when South China dominated the ex- changes and could have piled on the goals. Play at this stage became so dreary that spectators began to file out of the ground and 15 minutes from the closure large gaps were to be seen in all four stands.

H.K. CHINESE FAIL BADLY
South China were fielding a much weakened team, Fung King-cheong being an absentee from the inside-right berth, which was filled by Lai Shia- wing in the opening minutes, and later by Yeung Shui-vick, when the former was switched over to the inside-left berth, vacated by Cheuk Shek-kam. Leung Wing-chiu, still on the injured list as a result of the Interport game, was also an ab sentee and Lau Hing-choi was brought into the gap.
Shanghai had a very poor goal- keeper in Y. T. Chang, who should have prevented three of the goals, misjudging the flight on two oc- casions, while a penalty taken by Wong Mei-shun came straight into his hands, but he dropped the bal and Wong following up smashed the ball into the net.
