K.C.M.G. Bestowed In Postponed New Year List RECOGNITION
OF SERVICES OF
MR. T. M. HAZELRIGG
The names of two of the most highly esteemed members of the Hong Kong community are in- cluded in the New Year Honours List, the issue of which was delayed until to-day because of the re- cent constitutional crisis.
His Excellency the Governor, Sir Andrew Caldecott, has himself been singled out for the chief distinction fall- ing to the Colony. He is promoted in the Most Distinguish- ed Order of St. Michael and St. George and becomes K.C.M.G.
ALMOST EQUALLY POPULAR WILL BE THE BESTOWAL OF AN O.B.E. UPON MR. T. M. HAZELRIGG, WHO HAS JUST LEFT THE COLONY ON RETIREMENT AFTER MANY YEARS HERE AS CROWN SOLICITOR.
The warmest congratulations will be extended to both.
Mr. Hazelrigg is almost better known for his splendid pioneer work in connection with the organisation of the Society for the Pro- tection of Children. In its early years, it was Mr. Hazelrigg who furnished the driving force and energy which subsequently led to its development along vigorous and practical lines. He spent only 16 years in the Colony, coming here from the RAS.C. to assume the post of assistant crown solicitor in 1920, and being connected with the legal department of the administration during his entire period of service with the Government.

Salamanca, To-day.. The lull induced by the bad wea- ther conditions last week still con- tinues and military operations are virtually at a standstill
A statement issued by the Bur- gos Government alleges that a num- ber of the Madrid troops are de
serting to the rebels. The deserters, it is stated, tell stories of terrorism in Valencia and Alicante, where many have been killed in street fighting during the past few days. Observers in the rebel lines could observe fighting in the streets of Madrid, alleges the statement, which says the trouble was started by men whose families had been evacuated from the capital-Trans- Ocean.
