is amazing how few people know their own features. In fact, the average person's power of observation is so little trained that if she were to be shown a picture of her closest friend, just part of the face being exposed to view, she probably wouldn't re- cognise her. And to know oneself is always a much more difficult thing. A person looking at herself in the mirror usually gets quite a different impression from that gained by others. The reason is that she is not able to forget that inner picture" we all have of ourselves. That inner picture formed by us early in life remains stationary during the years our features are changing and de- veloping; that explains why we are so often dissatisfied by an ex- cellent photograph or portrait of ourselves. And the discrepancy between this inner picture and reality accounts for the many mis- takes women make in the choice of their dress and make-up... A

Here is a little test for you to see whether your power of observa- tion is better than average. Above are the photographs of three young local ladies which have been cut into four strips. The strips were afterwards rearranged to form three new faces. Now see whether you can recognise any of your own features or one of your friend's, and if you can, pick out the four strips forming the original photographs. It's quite fun!

you missed our last week's que, you'll want to know something this week about our make-up competition. The idea is to prove what a great help ex-- pertly applied make-up can be in modern photography. So if you want to take part in the compe- tition, and win one of the many handsome prizes, all you have to do is to make an appointment with D'Asis Studio, Gloucester Arcade, for a sitting. Two pho- tographs of you will be made- one without make-up and the other with make-up. These pic- tures will appear on this page every Thursday and after the publication of all the pictures three handsome prizes will be awarded by competent judges to the three competitors whose pic- tures show the most striking re- sults.
We have secured the co-oper- ation of China Factors Ltd., the local representatives of Max Factor, the Hollywood make-up genius, and one of their make-up artists will be in attendance to ensure that every competitor will have first-class make-up.
