MISS VIOLET CAPELL'S PUPILS

"Dancing as an art can never die out." and each time wel ..see the dance, in all its rhythmic beauty and expressiveness, we echo those words of Havelock Ellis. The tendency to dance has always brought out the best possibilities the individual held pro- mise of, and those who saw the Dancing Display of Miss Violet Capell and her pupils yesterday afternoon must have felt in the graceful, classic movements, in the joyous beat of the feet of the children, all the infinite possibility of youth, eager and lively. The Display was one to enjoy from start to finish. The pro- gramme, arranged with such artistry, did not allow the interests to flag a single moment.

"Character Dance," to follow, introduced Miss Pegory Stringer, the most outstanding of all Miss Capell's pupils. In each dance she was to do, whether classic or jazz, she showed such grace, such a feeling for rhythm, such an ex- cellent control of movement as tò put. her in a category quite her

This picture, made from the deck of a Coast Guard cutter, shows the trawler Esther and Carrie in tow after the craft was saved from sinking. The ship became disabled while faking off Jones Beach, Long Island, and the skipper released one of two carrier pigeons carried for the purpose. The bird reached the Coast Guard head- quarters, nine miles away, in 18 minutes, and the cutter was im- mediately sent out.
