"Holland would adhere to the same policy as hitherto, an official communique issued some time later states that the departure by Switzerland from the gold standard made it necessary for Hel land to reconsider its attitude. It was declared that as the Dutch guilder was the last currency to stand by the gold standard, it was subject to continual pressure, and Holland would, in defending its MADRID MAKES LAST APPEAL standard, soon lose all its gold. This made it impossible to main- tain the present policy. In consequence of this, the Bank of Hol land had decided that from September 27 the export of gold should he prohibited, with exceptions if the permission of the State Bank has been obtained.

ALLOWING FREER FLOW OF METAL
SWISS DECREE FORBIDS RAISING OF PRICES DEVALUATION TAKEN CALMLY BY
PRESS AND PUBLIC
Washington, To-day.
The possibility of the United States' revising the present stringent restriction on the export of gold in order to permit the metal to flow more freely between the nations participating i the monetary agreement is being discussed in Government fin- {ancial quarters. It is felt that some outflow of America's huge gold holding might be expected to result from such an agreement. The gold export regulations at present provide for gold ship- ments only to countries still on the full gold standard, as were France, Holland and Switzerland, although several exemptions were made to this rule. But if the restoration of Insting mone- tary equilibrium between the various economic systems is to be achieved, it is believed to be necessary to permit the orderly
movement of gold between the countries participating in the
stabilisation agreement in order to facilitate the adjustment of the international trade balances.
