Wilfred Lawrence made the first serious mistake in bis

swimming career in the 100 Yards free-style championship, which he again won, when he covered the first 50 yards in the phenomenal time of 25 3-5 secs, and was unable to finish strongly, just reaching the wall a stroke ahead of Norman Lee, of South

China, who recorded his best time to date.

Chan Lui-ki, of the Chinese Bathing Club won the Throwing the Polo Ball championship "on the post" so to speak when he beat Frank Read (Y.M.C.A.) by five inches, with his last throw, Read having reached 71 ft 7ins, with his final effort third best effort by Cpl. the first civilian tournament commences in the first week in October hockey Clubs are "preparing their ground" and the European Y.M.C.A., the Argonautas, the Nomads, the Radio and Royal Engineers, to mention but a few, have already had their first practice matches. The Hong Kong Hockey Club will hold their first practice this evening at King's Park.

Most of the Clubs are relying on new blood, but this had been partly counterbalanced by departures from the Colony and retirement from the game. The Navy do not get into full swing until at least a month later, as the majority of the China Fleet are still up North, but the Army teams have been playing throughout the close season..
