1OME fairly close finishes were witnessed in the Victoria Recreation Club swimming pool yesterday afternoon when the Hong Kong Area (China Command) annual swimming champion-LANGE ship heats were held before a large gathering of spectators. The European Y.M.C.A. Swim- ming Section held their second last swimming gala of the season last night, when three champion- ship events were held, HG. Lange, the holder, retaining his 50 Yards free-style title, while A. Keown won the Junior Section event over the same distance and R. Goldman won the Throwing- the-Polo-Bell Championship.
Owing to unavoidable circum- stances, the gala was not given much publicity in the local press and as a result there was a very poor attendance.
Although the times returned were poor in comparison with pre- vious efforts, the swimming on the whole was keer and the fin- |ishes very close, an excellent race being witnessed in the 75 Yards Medley, which was won by a touch by H. G. Lange from F. J. Anslow, Diving Postponed
