STATEMENT ISSUED BY BRITISH GOVT.
“EFFECTIVE ACTION MUST NOW
BE TAKEN
London, Te day.
An important statement of His Majesty's Government's policy in connection with the situation in Palestine, has been issued from the Colonial Office. After recalling the appointment of a Royal Commission to investigate the disturbances and the well-disposed offers of a number of Arab rulers and notabilities from neighbouring countries, including the King of Saudi Arabia, the Emir of Transjordan and General Nuri Pasha es Said, For- eign Minister of Iraq, to use their influence for conciliation, and after noting that in spite even of the recent intervention of Nuri Pasha, daily outrages and other instances of grave disorder have not been abated, the statement says:
“After a careful review of the whole situation His Majesty's Government are satisfied that the campaign of violence and threat of violence by which the Arab leaders are attempting to influence the policy of His Majesty's Goyrenment cannot be allowed to continue. and that more rapid and effective action must now be taken in order to bring the present state of disorder to an end with thei 'cast possible delay.
