Man And Wife Sent To Prison

GUILTY OF BLACKMAIL

A schoolmaster and his wife sentenced at the Old Bailey last month for demand- ing money with menaces from a City man who was referred to as Mr. "A.”

Gabrielle Thurs- field, aged 28, described as a secretary, of Ebury-street, Vic-i toria, S.W., pleaded guilty, and was sent to prison for nine months. Her husband, Robert Charles Thursfield, aged 35. was found guilty and sentenced to 22 months' hard labour.

Thursfield, it was stated. obtained £125 from Mr. “A," who was a married man, and asked for a further £25. The woman was stated to have obtained £100.

Thursfield, who had one previous conviction, was said to have taught in England unti 1928, when he went to Canada. He secured work with the Canadian Pacific Railway, later became manager of an hotel in Toronto, and returned to Eng- fland with his wife in 1930.
