(By H. R. McDonald)

London, June 17. SOMETIMES wonder, looking back over 26 Wimbledons, who is the most popular player, man or woman, to have played in the great centre court of either the old or the new ground of the All England Club, who founded the cham- pionships in 1877. I mean the player who at one period or another has proved the most attractive figure to capture the imagination of the public and hold it for a space.

The choice of this Wimbledon hero or heroine is not easy, for lawn tennis has been blessed above all games with an un- ending procession of alluring personalities right from its earliest

passed across the stage before my day, but I have seen every champion since those days crowned in the centre court.

One of the outstanding features of the programme was the Men's 400 Metres Free Style Club Championship, which was won by Tsang Ho-fook (the present champion in the absence of Chan Chan-hing), who swam a brilliantly judged race to win by almost half a length from Chan Fook-sing.
