CAR STRIKES BUMP AT
TERRIFIC SPEED
LEYLAND THOMAS "BLOWS-UP” ·
London, June 2.
MR. KENNETH CARR, a 30-year-old London stockbroker, who was accepted by the Brooklands, stewards only on Saturday as. com- petent to race on the track, was killed during a practice run yesterday morning.
The fact of his death was kept from the holiday crowds! who came to see the racing in the afternoon. Mr. Carr was to have driven Mr. H. Rose's powerful Alfa-Romeo car from scratch:

in the first race on the programme. Having a fast and difficult THE AUSTRALIAN TESTS
car to handle, he wanted to get in all the practice possible.
After completing several laps successfully he got the car
to nearly its maximum speed. Travelling at about 130 miles an hour it struck that notorious bump in the concrete just at the end of the members' banking, a point where the cars reach their maximum speed rushing down into the railway straight.
GOLFER WHO
Exactly what happened is not known, but after the bump came disaster. The car seem- ed to get out of control în a It hurled across the track and turned over. Mr. Carr was thrown out and killed, it is believed, instantly.
