All the players look- ed very fit and were all wearing blazers with the Berlin World Olympic crest.
Interviewed, Dr. Yung said that the main object of their Northern tour was not to win games, but to show the Chinese public in Shang-: hai and Nanking what players. were being sent to represent the country at the Berlin Games.
He defended Lee. Wai-tong against the adverse criticism of him by the Shanghai newspapers, many of whom quoted him as be- ing "disappointing because he failed to score any goals.”
Lee Wai-Tong !!
"Les Wai-tong was ill when he arrived in Shanghai by plane, andį at first it was feared that he had cysentry, but fortunately this was! not the case. He sportingly tura- ed out because he realised it was his duty as the probable captain-
In our last match in Shanghai, it was
considered necessary to slow down play in view of the possibility of injuries, and, as I have previously stated, it did not. matter whether we won or lost the games, so long as we showed thei Northern Chinese what sort of aļ team we had."
Dr. Yung said that the whole complement of 18 players gave exhibitions worthy of their selec- tions, and that' one or two players really excelled, among whom were) Wong Mei-shun, in the pivotal berth, and the wing-halves, Leungj Wing-chiu and "Darkie" Chan,
