DIANA BAY FAVOURED TO BEAT KING'S WARDEN ON SATURDAY CALCUTTA CUP AND Bright View And Estover As "Double" Combine
AFTERMATH
ENGLAND'S MID-FIELD ATTACKS INEPT
ANOTHER GREAT ERA BEFORE US
(By Howard Marshall)
London, March 24.
SO another Calcutta Cup match is merely a mat- ter for the record books, and the Rugby season moves to its close. We have, it is true, the final in the Services tournament at engagement Twickenham next Saturday, when the Army play the Air Force, and that amiable frolic, the seven- a-side competition, has still to scamper its way through an April afternoon.
The Easter tours, a few rather languid club matches, and, the goalposts will come down for the summer, despite the inscrutable wisdom of the Rugby Union, which decrees that play is permitted until the first week in May. This, I may add, is of no importance. It has merely been a source of irritation to conscientious secretaries.
A little summing-up is permissible, then, but first a few after- thoughts on the Calcutta Cup match, which seemed to me so dis- appointing. Perhaps my outlook is jaundiced. This horrid sus picion overcomes me because a number of people have said how? much they enjoyed the game. Well, I enjoyed it, too, here and there, the first half particularly, but it should have been so much! better.

THE Fourth Extra Race Meeting under the aus- pices of the Hong Kong Jockey Club will be held at the Valley next Saturday when a varied programme of nine events will be contested.
The main attraction will be the return encounter between. Diana Bay, a champion of former days, and King's Warden, in the Mount Parker Handicap for "A" Class China ponies. It will be recalled that King's Warden. carrying 168 lbs., broke the re- cord recently over the mile and 171 yards distance.
