TSUI BROTHERS IN

FINAL

LEE AND LUK COLLAPSE

IN FIFTH SET.

SURPRISINGLY LOW STANDARD

FOR LONG PERIODS

(By "BASE-LINE")

TENNIS of a surprisingly low standard was served up for long

periods in the Colony Doubles Championship Semi-Final tie be- tween Tsui Wai-pui and Tsui Yan-pui and Lee Wai-tong and Lak Ding-cheong. which the former won in five sets, at the H.K.C.C yesterday.

The winners, who, incidentally beat the Rumjahn cousins in an earlier round, were obviously the better equipped pair, but they were lucky to win after being forced completely out of their stride for four-fifths of the match. Only in the last set, when the light was deplorable and when their opponents had given up hope, did we see flashes of the form that eliminated the holders.

Lee and Luk showed very poor understanding and as a result lost a valcable lead of 5-3 in the first set, the winning of which might quite easily have turned the scales in their favour.

The most impressive player on Final, and their supporters can the court was Taui Wai-pui, who rest assured that they will be seen! is favoured to win this year's sin- to better advantage against this gles title. The South China Athletic Association, who supplied the majori ty of the players for the all-conquering Hong Kong team at the recent China National Games at the Civic Centre in Shanghai, have been specially honoured in that no less than 14 players from that body are among the 22 selected, -the others being equally divided between the Chinese Athletic Association and from overseas Chinese Clubs.

There are several surprise selections and of these Teung Shui- yick, the versatile South China "B" right and left-winger, is the biggest. I do not say that he did not deserve this unique honour. but he is undoubtedly the smallest of the 22 players. The other surprise is another South China "B" player, Cherk Shek-kun, who has only this year come into prominence. However, he has perform- ed brilliantly and should do as well as the others.
