WORLD'S SPEED SKAZING CRAME
With the winter Olympic un- der way at Garmisch-Partenkir- chen, internations! attention was focussed on Norway's great speed skater, Ivar Ballangrud, who, by his victories at Davos, Switzer- land, loomed as the best skater in the world. His performance of skating to 1500-metre world record in a blinding snowstorm proved his speed and stamina.

The
Chinese Recreation Club beat the Sailors' and Soldiers' Home by 8 games to 1 in the Men's Doubles Badminton League at Causeway Bay last night.
The CRC. introduced two new players in T. S. Lo and P. S. Choy, both of whom did quite well
Detailed results of the match were as follows:-
TAVARES AGAIN IN GOOD FORM
BUT FINCHER AND HUNG MUCH TOO STEADY
SCOONES STRIKES BAD PATCH
(By "Base-Line")" J. TAVARES again demonstrated his lawn tennis capabilities yesterday at the Hong Kong Cricket Club when he almost carried M. Drysdale for one set against Teddie Fincher and Willie Hung in the Second Round of the Colony Open Doubles Championship before a large crowd and in ideal weather.
His forehand was in good order in the first set, but was inclined to be erratic in the second. His cannon-ball service often aced Hung, but Fincher stood up to it în no uncertain way. Tavares brought off several clever angle-volleys, but was inclined to be caught on the wrong foot when coming up on his slower second service.
Drysdale, after a very indifferent start, brought off one of two well-positioned strokes on the forehand, but discounted the majority of these by faulty serving. He had a demoralising influence on his partner, who attempted too much himself in the closing stages.

MAGNIFICENT PLAY BY SCOTS' DEFENCE RODGER, MCLELLAN AND SHEWAN SHINE
REED'S WONDERFUL GAME
(By "Sticks")
ENGLAND beat Scotland by 4 goals to 1 in
their Semi-Final Round encounter in the local international hockey series yesterday on the Naval ground, King's Park, and were very lucky to have done so as three of the goals were very doubtful ones, two being scored from what appeared to be off-side positions and the last goal of the match being definitely a "sticks" infringement.
The outstanding feature of the game was the magnificent display given by the Scottish defence, in which Jack Rodger, the skipper, played a wonderful game, and was ably backed up by Blackburn, his partner, McLellan, the pivot, and the wing halves Norman Whitley and W. W. C. Shewan.
