DECIDED improvement in the weather has

favoured the opening of the 1936 Colony C. H. Ung Lawn Tennis Championships, which will take place this afternoon at the H.K.C.C., when nine matches in the First Round of the Singles event will be down for decision.

After a comprehensive study of the draw for the Singles event I have come to the conclu- W. Lo sion that H. D. Rumjahn, Lai Kwong-tsun, Lee. w. Leonard Wai-tong and S. A. Rumjahn, the holder, will be A L. Sullivan the likely semi-finalists. Lai will be faced with M. Drysdale the sternest opposition-M. W. Lo, a former champion, J. W. Leonard and E. C Fincher. C. Fincher while Lee will have to overcome Tsui Wai-pui, a former champion.

Wong Fuk-nam

A. Crawford

Lt. Phillimore Capt. Cracy. In the Doubles event I expect to see L. Goldman and T. A.

Lee Eus-ugak Pearce enter the Semi-Final Round at the expense of E CAPP. Guest Fincher and W. C. Hung, while Lai Kwong-tsun and Paul Kong should have no difficulty in disposing of A. V. Gosano and A. V.B. Owen Hughes Remedios in the quarter-finals. Lee Wai-tong and Luk Ding-Ma Nai-kwong cheong, the C.R.C. doubles champions, look good in the third

F. R. Zimmerni quarter, while H. D. and S. A. Rumjahn, holders of the title for

Lee Wai-tong the last 11 years, should secure an easy entry into the Semi- Final Round.

the S. A. Rumjaha, abore, Colony lawn tennis singles cham- pion, is expected to retain his title during the present cham- pionship series, which com MEDCOR this afternoo

. Lai Kwong-taun,

who should reach the last four, despite Teddy Fincher's challenge, will meet Y. Hachiuma, the leading Japanese A. Wan player, this afternoon. Hachiuma H. Y. Ho has undoubtedly improved since! Tsui Wai-pui his appearance in last year's cham-1, M. A. Razack pionships, but I do not think he is

capable of beating the Canton Firdos Khan champion. Lai's best shot is his S. W. Liang powerful forehand drive and its. A. Gray will take a better equipped player Capt. Walch than the nippy Hachiuma to re- turn this shot to advantage.

H. D. Rumjahn, cousin of the reigning champion and leading Paul Kong doubles player in the Colony, will G. C. Burnett

be given an opportunity to have a T. A. Pearce quiet knock-up in preparation for T. C. Monagbaz more serious opposition when he meets W. J. Howard, who is hard-W. Shute

likely to prove much too good for the stolid Monaghan. Pearce hasj distinctly bright future ahead of
