INTERPORT HOCKEY TRIAL FIASCO POOR CONDITIONS RUIN GOOD MATCH

MANY PLAYERS ABSENT

(By "Sticks")'

A VERY disappointing hockey trial in pre-

paration for the forthcoming Interport against Macau, was witnessed on the Club ground yesterday when Colours beat Whites by the odd goal in three, a slippery surface and very poor light ruining what might have been a good game.

Among the many disappointing features was the number of absentees, and, as new trials were specially called for with the object of giving those players who were unable to turn out in the previous trials a chance, the result was most discouraging.

G. E. R. Divett has injured his band at cricket and will not be able to play for several days, while Khan Bahadur, the Army: full-back, has developed water-on-the-knee and will be out of the game for the rest of the season Garthwaite, who was selected for Possibles' inside-right berth, was also an absentee, though an interested spectator. Lt-Comdr. J. E. Brome. Possibles' left-back, is on the sick list-

TO-DAY'S INTERESTING CARD

(By. "Rapier")

ILD Cat's connections are very confident

that he will carry off the Subscription Grif-|- fins' Challenge Cup at the Valley this afternoon, and I am inclined to think he will do it under the skilful guidance of Mr. T. L Wong, despite serious challenges from Gold Sovereign and Rose Evelyn, both of whom proved yesterday that they are more than mere sprinters. The Gorilla and Cassius are the two outsiders most likely to cause an upset here, though I do not anticipate any surprises.

Mr. V. K. Grzyburn's Tyne, above, was placed third in The Black Rock Stakes yesterday. ("China. Mal photo).

YESTERDAY'S WINNERS

The Rooty Hill Derby Hes between Holiday Eve and Strathroy, with Lancashire Lad as the likely third pony. Mr. Needa has already captured the major classic as a result of his | 1— 11.3 powerful finishing abilities and these I am inclined to believe will determine the Australian Derby, despite Strathroy's obvious claims.

The other big race of the day-The Exchange Plate-wili again fall to Liberty Bay, if he is started here. In the second part of this race King's Warden will more than probably reverse yesterday's defeat at the hands of Gladiator.

Mr. Gilbert Harriman was a bitterly disappointed man yes- terday, but the fault was not entirely his that Royal Scot lost-

the Derby. It would probably
