HOCKEY MATCH AGAINST MACAO

WANDERERS XI TO PLAY ON MARCH 1

POINTER TOWARDS THE INTERPORT GAME

(By "STICKS")

A hockey fixture of unusual interest has been arranged for March 1 then the Wanderers' eleven, including nine former members of the European "Y", will meet the Macao-frst eleven at Macao, as it should act as a pointer to the result of the Inter- port contest against the Colony eleven, which takes place the week following.

Disappointed at the fact thatį (the "Y" were unable to fulfil their annual fixture against Macao, several old members, with the help of others, formed the Wan- derers eleven, which is a fairly strong side.

G. C. Moss, of the Police, will be in goal with S. A. Tremlett ("Y") and G. Sommer (Club) as the two full-backs. The inter- mediate line is an excellent one, comprising J.-E. Potter, captain of the Club side, J. Farmer; 'cap-.

M.C.C. DECISION FINDS SUPPORT

7 CONTROL NEEDED (By Leighton)

Singapore, February 11. VERY shortly now the cricket season will be here. In the meantime there is much dis- cussion going on regarding the Singapore Cricket Club's decision to try out the experimen- tal leg before wicket rule

As far as I can gather Clubs in Singapore will follow the lead" given to them by the S.CC. but elsewhere throughout Malaya the new rule will not be adopted. Selangor were the first to turn it down. Perak followed suit and now Penang have decided to ban it for this season.

The chief reason "given by the up-country states and clubs is that umpiring is not of a very high standard and that it will be very much more difficult to give a man out under the new rule than under the old one. With that view point, however, 1 cannot agree.

Under the new rule umpires have only one thing to watch

and that is whether, in their RUNAWAY opinion, the ball which hits a

the wicket Under the old rule)
